Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn

Bust of an Old Man with a Flowing Beard, the Head Bowed Forward

Details

Bartsch 325; White/Boon 325; Hinterding/Rutgers (The New Hollstein) 64 I (from I).

Description

Excellent, clear and early print with the incorrect etching at the bottom right. Hinterding/Rutgers only knows one state of this rare sheet. Cut just inside the plate edge. Trimmed by 6 mm at the top edge. Rembrandt portrays this character in an impressive way. Even at a young age, he had the ability to use a fine etching needle to create the effect of different textures as in a painting, for example here the hair and clothing. – A few tiny stains, the upper right corner carefully reattached, otherwise in good condition. Very rare!
