Karl & Faber Kunstauktionen is one of the most renowned auction houses in Germany. Based in the heart of Munich, the company operates on the international art market and combines tradition and the present: for over 100 years, works of art from the fields of Old Masters, 19th century art, modern and contemporary art have been coming under the hammer with estimated prices of between 800 and 1,000,000 euros. Karl & Faber works with a worldwide network of renowned art experts in museums, research institutions and foundations. A team of 30 expert employees at the head office in Munich and the branch office in Hamburg as well as representatives in the Rhineland, Tegernsee, Switzerland, England, France and the USA maintain personal contact with customers from all over the world. Registrar (m/f/d)
Full-time (40 hours/week)
Responsibilities
- Organisation, planning and coordination of art transports including the appropriate transport packaging
- Organisation of customs and insurance for the transport
- Responsible for the correct storage of artworks
- Regular inventory of the warehouse
- Negotiating and monitoring insurance conditions and contracts with third-party providers, especially logistics companies
- Technical and organisational management responsibility for the shipping department, which currently has four employees
- Coordination and optimisation of work processes
- Coordinating the set-up and dismantling of exhibitions and events
Requirements
- Completed (technical) university degree – diploma/bachelor’s degree – with a specialisation in cultural studies, museology or art history or another relevant course of study related to the above-mentioned fields of activity
- or many years of professional experience through which equivalent skills and experience have been acquired
- Proven experience as a registrar
- several years of experience in the professional handling of works of art
- good command of English (written and spoken)
- initiative, ability to work in a team, organisational and coordination skills
- Sensitivity in dealing with customers and works of art
- Flexibility in terms of time and organisation
- Confident handling of standard programmes: MS-Office (Excel, Word), Topix or comparable -Experience with Apple Mac devices an advantage
- Class B driving licence

Internship at Karl & Faber | Munich
Karl & Faber Fine Art Auctions is one of the most renowned auction houses in Germany. Based in the heart of Munich, the house operates on the international art market and combines tradition and the present: since 1923, works of art from the fields of Old Masters, 19th century art, modern and contemporary art have come under the hammer. Karl & Faber works with a worldwide network of renowned art experts in museums, research institutions and foundations.
Every year we are looking for two interns (m/f/d) for 3 months in the periods end of February/end of May and beginning of September/end of November.
We offer interesting and varied tasks in the context of an internship around our spring and autumn auctions. In addition to enthusiasm for working with art, foreign language skills and a current degree in art history or similar are required. After prior instruction, you will work independently and as part of a team. You will get to know the processes of an internationally operating auction house. The following tasks belong to your activities:
– Supporting the photographer
– Organisation and set-up of the Pre-Sale Viewings
– Data maintenance
– Helping with the auction and the follow-up work
The salary is € 450 per month and the weekly working time is 40 hours.
