Descrizione

A very fine impression, with burr in the reflection of the reeds on the far bank, beneath the boy at the far right and in the farm equipments at the right centre. With the fine additional hatching, for example in the meadow below the hill in the right margin and in the meadow around the grazing cows.
Rembrandt depicts a broad landscape of water and meadows extending as far as the hills in the background with just a few lines, some of which are concentrated into hatching. The flat Dutch landscape is crossed by a canal. The shadowy strips of reeds lie one behind the other like a barrier in front of the viewer. But as the viewer’s gaze wanders forwards to the horizon, the thought that he himself is moving forwards, crossing the canal at the next bridge and will soon pass the gates of the town in the middle ground is undeniable. Trimmed to the fine black line on the right and on the other three sides of the platemark. – Carefully backed in the corners and at the left edge on the verso and partially inconspicuously redrawn, otherwise in good condition. Very rare!
