Good, even impression, printed before the oxidation spots and after removing the mis-etching on the top edge and the uneven, rough plate edges that are still clearly visible in the first state. Cut close to the edge of the plate. The etched sketchbook sheets with individual figures and heads form a special feature in Rembrandt’s graphic oeuvre due to their fragmentary character and the different size ratios of the depictions. They give the impression of spontaneously executed sheets, but in fact they are carefully executed compositions that were created as etched “capricci”. Nowell-Usticke describes this etching as “A very scarce sheet” (RR+). – Paper evenly slightly yellowed and with faint traces of earlier mounting on the reverse, otherwise in good condition. Very rare!
