Description

Very good, even and fine impression, before the oxidation stains and after the removal of the faulty etching at the upper edge and the removal of the uneven, rough plate edges, which are still clearly visible in the first state. Trimmed close to the platemark.
The etched sketchbook pages with individual figures and heads are a speciality in Rembrandt’s graphic oeuvre due to their fragmentary character and the different proportions of the figures. They give the impression of spontaneously executed sheets, but in fact they are deliberate compositions that were created as etched “Capricci”. Nowell-Usticke has labelled this Engraving “A very scarce sheet” (RR+). – Paper evenly slightly darkened and with faintly visible traces of mounting on the reverse, otherwise in good condition. Very rare!
