Description

• Particularly striking and extraordinary effect due to the use of a light box
• Created in the context of the legendary “No problem pictures”
• Kippenberger is one of the most internationally renowned German artists of the 20th century Martin Kippenberger is a master of caustic irony and jarring sarcasm. He embodied an inseparable symbiosis of life and art like no other – living intensely and excessively with all the personal consequences. The backlit work “We don’t have problems with the Rolling Stones…” uses striking aesthetic of an advertising light box and combines text and image to form a collage. This extraordinary work was created as part of the exhibition “The No Problem Pictures”, which was held in 1986 at the Christoph Dürr Gallery in Munich and enjoys a cult-like status today. The exhibition mainly showed posters: Kippenberger was fascinated by German history, particularly the idea of coming to terms with the past in the post-war period. His No Problem pictures openly and directly address the uncomfortable truths of German history. By exploring the creative potential of shame and failure, they continue the project begun in his former I.N.P. (= it’s not embarrassing) pictures from 1984.
