Description

• Impressive, detailed work from the early “Mare Mosso” series
• Created in Rapallo, Italy
• Bernd Zimmer is one of the most important contemporary landscape painters Since the late 1970s, landscapes have been Bernd Zimmer’s main subject. The constant change, the transience of cloud formations and weather that can transform any landscape in a matter of seconds. The way in which the sea directly reflects weather and lighting conditions has been a central motif for the artist throughout his life. Bernd Zimmer’s works are not created directly from nature; they are images from memory that are not intended to depict topographically recognisable places, but rather to address the painting process itself as a theme. His works attempt to translate nature into a visual language: how is it possible to reproduce the colour mood, the light, the uniquene qualities of a landscape in a precisely constructed two-dimensional form? Bernd Zimmer’s consistent way of working in series allows him to paint without reducing the natural forms to a single closed and final image, but rather to approach natural phenomena in the infinite diversity of their appearances.
