Description

• Typical drawing by Kokoschka from the beginning of his international career
• Figure study shows similarity to drawings by Egon Schiele, who was influenced by Kokoschka
• Drawn with a quick, confident line Kokoschka’s international career began after his studies at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and his work at the Wiener Werkstätte. The present work is stylistically linked to his early nude drawings, the geometric forms of which were a great inspiration for Egon Schiele. As close friends, the two artists maintained an intensive artistic relationship. The female model depicted can be recognised in a whole series of figure sketches as of 1913. Typical features are the curly hair with fringe, the long, narrow nose and the prominent chin. Kokoschka draws the seated figure with quick, confident strokes.
