Wilhelm Busch

Day labourer woman (The cleaner)

Details

Gmelin 113.

Description

Busch preferred to paint older people, marked by life, such as the somewhat hunched woman resting in a chair. Once again, Busch’s keen powers of observation are evident, and they do not stop at the infirmities of old age. The day labourer is hunched over, her arthritic fingers resting on her knees. Busch’s works present real people to the viewer: lost in thought, jittery or simply tired.
