Pencil and etching on laid paper “P.M. FABRIANO” and “VAN GELDERN”. (19)29 and (19)30. C. 48 : 33 cm (sheet) and c. 29.5 : 25 cm (sheet c. 43 : 36 cm). The drawing initialed and titled lower right, dated and inscribed “Arles” lower left. The etching signed and dated lower left, inscribed “Probedruck” lower right. Each on the lower margin with a dedication. Framed.

Die Zeichnung enstand im Jahr 1929 während einer vierzehntägigen Studienreise nach Südfrankreich. Die berühmte Hängebrücke in Arles hatte es Kleinschmidt besonders angetan. Zunächst enstanden einige Zeichnungen, die er in den kommenden Jahren mehrfach verarbeitete, zum einen in der beiliegenden Radierung, zum anderen in einer Serie von Ölgemälden, die er bis 1931 abschloß. Die Zeichnung kaum merklich verwischt. An den oberen Ecken mit Klebstoffspuren. Die Radierung leicht gebräunt und etwas knittrig. Mit einem in die Darstellung reichenden ca. 20 cm langen Riss vom rechten Blattrand aus.
