Richard Ziegler

1891 – Pforzheim – 1992

Richard Ziegler completed his studies in philology in Geneva, Greifswald and Heidelberg in 1919 with a doctorate before deciding to become a painter. The self-taught artist received significant impulses during several trips to Italy in the first half of the 1920s, but above all during his stay in Berlin (1925-32), where he took part in several exhibitions of the November Group. In 1933, he emigrated with his Jewish wife, initially to Korcula (Yugoslavia), before finally settling in England after a stay in Paris (1937-62), where he worked for various publishers. In 1963, he moved to Mallorca for health reasons. He spent the last years of his life in his birthplace of Pforzheim.
