Descrizione

Vorzeichnung für ein Gemälde mit der Himmelfahrt Mariens, eine Ausführung ist nicht bekannt. Einzelne Motive erscheinen in Gemälden, die Passignano in seiner Frühzeit in Florenz und Rom schuf.

This drawing is one of a hitherto unknown group of four discussed in cat. 107 and by Miles Chappell in a forthcoming study. The drawing appears to be for a specific depiction of the Assumption, with the apostles at the tomb, the Assumption of the Virgin in a glory of angels, and the Coronation by the Trinity though a painting of this composition is not known. Some of the motifs are observed in depictions from the early decades of his career in Florence and Rome. For these associations and the provenance, the drawing is an important discovery for Passignano.
