25 years after the death of the Swiss universal artist Dieter Roth, the special auction offers around 50 prints, drawings and material paintings from the former possession of the Viennese art dealer Kurt Kalb.

To this day, Dieter Roth’s multifaceted oeuvre continues to fascinate, which knows no fear of contact with the most diverse materials and genre boundaries. The basic impulse of his work was his understanding of time as the epitome and expression of chance, constant change and transience. In the early 1960s, Roth created his first works from decomposing organic materials such as meat, cheese, bread or chocolate. As in his entire oeuvre, Roth was particularly interested in the non-conformity of artistic techniques in graphic art. Thus he often combined classical printing techniques in experimental, so-called “combination prints” and unique pieces.

In 1972 Roth had his first solo exhibition in Vienna at Kurt Kalb’s gallery. The two were linked by a close friendship and collaboration. Kalb was one of the most enigmatic personalities in recent Austrian art history. As an art dealer and gallery owner, he particularly promoted artists of the then still little-known generation of Actionists, such as Günter Brus and Hermann Nitsch.
