Description

The martyrs Dorothea (with flower basket) and Catherine (with sword and chariot wheel) are shown next to each other as full-length figures. Together with St Margaret and St Barbara, they are assigned to the so-called “Virgines Capitales”, who could be invoked as emergency helpers in prayer. They probably flanked the larger centrepiece of an altar, facing two male saints.
