Description
Walter Bondy war Maler, Zeichner, Fotograf, Sammler, Kunstkritiker und Schriftsteller. In Prag geboren, erhielt er seine künstlerische Ausbildung in Wien, München und Berlin. Nach 1904 hielt er sich vor allem in Paris auf, wo er sich im internationalen Malerkreis des “Café du Dôme” bewegte und sich von Malern wie Renoir, Van Gogh, Cézanne und Matisse beeinflussen ließ.
Bei Kriegsausbruch 1914 kehrte Bondy vorerst nach Berlin zurück. Der aufkommende Nationalsozialismus beunruhigte ihn jedoch so sehr, dass er 1932 Berlin wieder verließ und sich schließlich in Sanary-sur-Mer in Südfrankreich niederließ. Bondy war ein Cousin der Cassirer- und Warburgfamilien.
