Walter Bondy, der vor allem für seine Landschaften und Stillleben bekannt ist, zeigt hier seine Nähe und Verbundenheit zu den Künstlers des Café du Dôme um Matisse in Paris. Wie Matisse oder auch Hans Purrmann spielt er mit den unterschiedlichen Materialen, die er dem Betrachter hier in ausgewogener Farbigkeit darbringt und in Szene setzt: Ein Zusammenspiel von Licht, Farbe und Materialität.
