Das Gemälde geht zurück auf eine Lithographie nach einer Zeichnung von Caspar Scheuren, die 1834 veröffentlicht wurde: Das Nahe-Thal, von dem Ursprunge der Nahe bis zu ihrer Mündung in den Rhein. Köln 1834, lithografisches
Widmungsblatt u. 20 Ansichten von Bad Kreuznach und Umgebung in Lithografie nach J. C. Scheuren von A. Borum u. A. Brandmayer. Die Lithographie von Brandmayer gab es auch als koloriertes Exemplar, nach der offensichtlich das Gemälde entstand, für das auch Scheuren als Maler auszuschließen ist.
Die Identifizierung der Ansicht geht auf Karsten Keune, Bonn, zurück.
