Description
Jan Mortel war Schüler von Jan Porcellis van Delden, Enkel des bekannten Marinemalers. 1675 wurde er Mitglied der Gilde in Leiden, wo er seine gesamte Laufbahn verbrachte. Seine Werke spiegeln einen starken Einfluss sowohl von Jan Davidsz. de Heem als auch von Abraham Mignon wider. Vorliegendes Werk ist in einem warmen Kolorit gehalten und führt dem Betrachter die Schönheit der Natur vor Augen. Kleine Insekten und Wassertropfen bereichern die Komposition, die durch fokussierte Lichtimpulse an Lebendigkeit gewinnt.
