Description
Seine wichtigste Inspiration fand der Künstler im Werk von Nicolas Poussin, aber auch Gaspard Dughet und Francisque Millet übten einen Einfluss aus. Nach ihrem Vorbild komponierte er ideale Landschaften, die von warmem Licht erfüllt und von erzählerischer Staffage belebt sind. Werke des Künstlers befinden sich im Besitz der Schlösser von Versailles und Fontainebleau, außerdem in zahlreichen Museen, so in der St. Petersburger Eremitage, im New Yorker Metropolitan Museum of Art und in der Wiener Albertina.
