Die Haltung der Liegenden und die Dekor-Elemente entsprechen dem Gemälde “Nue couché de dos” von 1927. Matisse, der auf früheren Reisen die Schönheit nordafrikanischer Frauen bewundert hatte, ließ ihre Haltung für seine Odaliskenbilder im Atelier von französischen Modellen nachstellen. – Umlaufend mit Büttenrand. Kleine Fehlstelle an der rechten oberen Ecke fachmännisch ergänzt, die anderen Ecken kaum merklich gestaucht. Von sehr schönem Gesamteindruck.
Provenienz: Sammlung Henri M. Petiet, Paris, verso mit dem Sammlerstempel “H.M.P.” im Oval.
