Neben den Kinderbildern entsteht 1973 eine weitere Werkgruppe, die die Konzentration des Künstlers auf das Wesentliche – hier: das eigene Handwerkszeug – verdeutlicht. Wie wichtig seine “Pinselbilder” für ihn sind, zeigt sich auch daran, dass er sich damit um eine Professur an der Münchner Akademie bewirbt. Im vorliegenden Werk zeigt er nicht ohne Humor seine Utensilien, die, gespannt in einer Reihe liegend, nur auf einen imaginären Startschuss zu warten scheinen, um sich auf der weißen Leinwand auszutoben. Es ist der Moment, in dem noch alles möglich ist. – Leinwand leicht wellig, sonst in sehr gutem Originalzustand.
