Amazons II. Oil on canvas. (19)69. C. 100 : 120 cm. Signed, dated, and inscribed with the title lower left. On the reverse of the canvas signed and inscribed “Lächle wenn Du stirbst” (Smile when you die). Framed.
The work is not included in the oeuvre catalogue, but belongs to the large series of “Amazon” paintings in which Prem faces his erotic fantasies. At this time, the artist started to feel his declining creative powers and tried to revive them with help of LSD. His drug consumption did indeed lead to such colourful, powerful works as the present example, but this surge of creativity was not to be of long duration.

Die Arbeit ist nicht im Werkverzeichnis erfasst, gehört aber zu der dort erwähnten umfangreichen Serie von “Amazonen”-Bildern, in denen Prem erotische Phantasien verarbeitet. Der Künstler spürte in diesen Jahren das Nachlassen seiner expressiven Kraft und versuchte u.a. mit Hilfe von LSD sich neue Welten und Dimensionen zu erschließen, was tatsächlich zu den farbensprühenden Werken dieser Werkphase führte, aber nicht von langer Dauer sein sollte.
Stellenweise mit Craquelé und kleinen Farbabsplitterungen.
Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Österreich (direkt beim Künstler erworben).
