A vigorously composed work in vivid, yet subtly shaded hues featuring a view very familiar to the artist: the depicted street belongs to his native village Rottluff (today a part of Chemnitz).
Description
Das Oeuvre Schmidt-Rottluffs wird über alle Schaffensperioden hinaus durch besondere Strahlkraft der Farben und Bestimmtheit der Form gekennzeichnet. Die vorliegende Zeichnung ist ein schöner Beleg seiner Beziehung zur Landschaft – ein bevorzugtes Thema in seinem Schaffen – und vor allem zu einem ihm vertrauten Landschaftsmotiv. Bei der dargestellten Dorfstraße handelt es sich um eine Straße seines Heimatortes Rottluff (heute Chemnitz eingemeindet). Im oberen Papierbereich vereinzelt mit kleinen Druckspuren; verso in den Ecken mit Montageresten, sonst in schöner Erhaltung.
