1906 lebte Feininger mehrere Monate mit der Kunststudentin und seiner späteren Frau Julia Berg in Weimar und erkundete mit Skizzenblock und Fahrrad die Umgebung. Dabei entdeckte er eine neue, faszinierende Motiv-welt. Dazu zählte auch die im 17. Jahrhundert barockisierte Kirche des idyllischen Tröbsdorf. Bei vorliegendem Blatt ist die Kirche formal wie auch farblich hervorgehoben und bestimmt die Straßenszene. Dynamische Studie in dem für Feininger so charakteristischen Zeichenstil und von schönem Gesamteindruck. In einwandfreiem Zustand.
