Descrizione

The drawing was created during Beckmann’s first years in Frankfurt. The artist places his subject on paper with clear, calm lines. The large, expressive eyes looking at the viewer characterise the otherwise somewhat austere-looking sitter. The drawing will be included in the extended catalogue raisonné of Max Beckmann’s drawings currently being prepared by Dr Stephan von Wiese and Hedda Finke, Berlin.
