Description

The exhibition poster is a variation on the woodcut “Männerbildnis” from 1919 (Gercken 739 H). The exhibition at the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Krefeld, where works by Heinrich Campendonk, Emil Nolde, Oskar Kokoschka, August Macke, Franz Marc and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, among others, were shown from early May to early June 1920, was organised by the sculptor and art historian Dr Ludwig Thormaehlen (1889-1956), Heckel’s friend. Three copies of the poster are owned by museums: Ada and Emil Nolde Foundation, Seebüll; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Rifkind Centre, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA.
