Description

Theobald Michau’s landscapes are closely modelled on the paintings of Jan Brueghel the Younger. He preferred broad, rural landscapes, in which the colourful staffage of peasants, shepherds and travellers in particular is reminiscent of the 17th century model. Michau’s often miniature-like, finely executed landscapes, bathed in soft light, were coveted collector’s items in 18th century Antwerp.
