Description

Imi Knoebel began working on his analytical series during his student days in the legendary classroom of Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Academy. He explores form, colour, material, light and line in minimalist hybrids of painting and sculpture. The “Revolver” series, in which Knoebel creates works of chromatic density and intense visual impact by superimposing lines and panels in vivid, prismatic colours, can also be viewed in this context. The superimposed sheets of plastic foil cast shadows on one another, which interweave and multiply the chromatic values of the work, creating a sense of infinite possibilities, to which the title of the work series alludes.
