Arnold Balwé

“Ernte in Niederbayern” (Harvest in Lower Saxony)

With stamp of the painter’s supply merchant “Farben Schöberl” on the reverse on the stretcher. Literature: Sailer, Anton, Arnold Balwé, Mannheim undated, p. 33, with full page col. Ill., there entitled “Kornernte”. Provenance: From the artist’s estate.

In his youth, Balwé completed an internship in agriculture in Lower Bavaria. It is therefore not surprising that he often depicted harvest scenes. In the present painting, the glowing yellow haystacks and a labouring couple are the main protagonists of this summery scene.
