1870 Wedel – Rostock 1938

Bronze with dark brown patina. (1923). Height ca. 43 cm (base ca. 11 x 11 cm). A numbered cast from an edition of 12 cast in bronze as of 1961. Incised with the artist’s signature and stamped with the foundry mark “H.NOACK BERLIN” on the lower back edge.

Description

In 1923, Barlach created an initial design in plaster and a wooden figure. Further stucco casts were taken from the plaster. However, it was not until after his death in 1961 that the Noack foundry began to produce the bronze version.
