Description
“Der Verschwender” steht frontal zum Betrachter, mit umgehängtem Geldbeutel und beide Hände der über Kreuz gehaltenen Arme weit geöffnet. Dieser Figurentyp erscheint mehrfach im Œuvre Ernst Barlachs: Erstmals 1915 auf Entwürfen zu einer Kaminverkleidung im Auftrag von Charlotte Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Berlin. Dann noch einmal
1921/22 bei einem nicht realisierten Projekt zur Dielen-Ausgestaltung in der Villa des Breslauer Textilfabrikanten und Kunstsammlers Leo Lewin (1881-1965) (vgl. Probst 1370, 1375 und 1774, 1777, 1954, 1955). Als Vollplastik führt Barlach diese Figur 1921 aus, 1923 entsteht nochmals ein Relief (vgl. Laur 327-330 und 355-357).
