Bronze with black patina, on a marble plinth. (1901). Ca. 11.5 x 3 x 11.5 cm (Height with plinth ca. 15.5 cm). Stamped with the artist’s signature on the reverse of the plinth, stamped twice with the foundry mark “H. Noack” on the side. One of very few posthumous casts.

Description

Gabler schreibt zu der Bronze, sie sei eine “kleine Kühlerfigur, die Gaul seinem langjährigen Galeristen, Freund und Autonarren Paul Cassirer zum fünfzigsten Geburtstag im Februar 1921 schenkte. Im kleinen Format nimmt Gaul das Motiv der buckelnden Katze von einer seiner erfolgreichsten frühen Plastiken wieder auf (Gabler 71, Bronze von 1901).
