Friedrich II. erspäht vom Dachboden des Roßbacher Herrenhauses aus die anrückende französische Armee. Der Preußenkönig erkannte die Gefahr für seine linke Heeresflanke und entschloss sich zum Gegenangriff auf die vorausgeschickten Kolonnen. Obwohl zahlenmäßig unterlegen, waren die preußischen Truppen siegreich – die Schlacht bei Roßbach am 5. November 1757 markierte einen Wendepunkt im Siebenjährigen Krieg.
