Watercolour and opaque colours over pencil on wove watermarked “J. Whatman 1845” (with embossed stamp of the paper maker recto). 1849. 37.9 x 29.7 cm. Signed and dated to the right beside the depiction. Inscribed in old handwriting on a note: “Dieses Portrait von meiner geliebten/selg. Hildegard mit ihren beyden Töchtern./Therese u. Mathilde vermachte mir die gute/Gräfin Sophie … (illegible). welche meine beyden jüngern/Schwestern erzogen hat.”

Description

Die erstgeborene Tochter Maria Theresia (1845-1927) berührt zärtlich das goldene Armband am Handgelenk ihrer Mutter, in das ein Medaillon mit einer Miniatur, wohl ein Porträt des Vaters, des Erzherzogs Albrecht von Österreich-Teschen, eingearbeitet ist. – Papier leicht lichtrandig und im oberen Rand stellenweise nachgedunkelt. In den Randbereichen teils leicht gewellt. Oben rechts einige oberflächliche Kratzer. Insgesamt in guter Erhaltung.
