Description
Nachdem Cromek bereits weite Teile Italiens bereist hatte, brach er im Juli 1834 nach Korfu auf. Von dort aus ging es durch Albanien, nach Ithaka und Delphi. Schließlich erreichte er Athen und begann, zahlreiche Zeichnungen der antiken Stätten anzufertigen. Weiter führte ihn seine Tour nach Argos und Mykene. 1844 kehrte er erneut nach Athen zurück, wo er zwei Monate lang Zeichnungen nach den antiken Tempelruinen, so auch des Erechtheions mit seiner Korenhalle, anfertigte. “I was delighted by everything I saw at Athens: the colour of the buildings being much richer, and less dark than that of the ruins in Rome. As specimens of architechture, they are universally condered perfect” (T. H. Cromek, Reminiscences at Home and Abroad 1812-1855, August, 1834). – Im oberen Rand ein Fleck. Im unteren Rand rechts eine kleine Fehlstelle, in der unteren rechten Ecke ein hinterlegter Einriss. Insgesamt in guter Erhaltung.
