Description
Eine Frau in antikisierendem Gewand hat eine Öllampe entzündet. Es wird schlagartig hell, tanzende Schatten legen sich auf die kahlen Wände. Sie blickt ahnungsvoll nach vorn. Was sie jedoch im Schein der Öllampe erblickt, bleibt ihr Geheimnis. Womöglich ist sie in eine Gruft hinabgestiegen, worauf der menschliche Totenschädel hindeuten würde.
Rienäcker war ein gefragter Porträtmaler und arbeitete für mehrere Fürstenhäuser, u.a. für die Kaisertochter Viktoria Luise von Preußen und ihren Gemahl Ernst August Herzog zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg. Er lehrte an der Münchener Akademie und war 1904-1929 mehrfach im Glaspalast vertreten.
