Bronze with dark brown patina. (1921). C. 15 x 14 x 7.5 cm. An unnumbered cast from an edition of 20 in total. Inscribed with the artist’s name on the left side. With foundry stamp “H. NOACK BERLIN” on the reverse. The model (1921) for the bronze cast is housed in the Ernst Barlach Lizenzverwaltung in Ratzeburg. According to Laur, the bronze was cast from 1930 to 1937 (9) and since 1940 (11). As none of the casts were numbered, it is impossible to tell whether the present work is a lifetime cast or not.

Description

Rundplastik zweier sitzender Mönche. Der linke Mönch liest in einem Buch während der rechte Mönch seinen rechten Arm über seine Schultern legt.

Das Modell (1921) für den Bronzeguss befindet sich in Ratzeburg in der Ernst Barlach Lizenzverwaltung. Die Gussjahre der Bronze werden bei Laur mit 1930-37 (9) und seit 1940 (11) angegeben, da alle jedoch unnummeriert sind, kann nicht festgestellt werden, ob es sich hier um einen Lebzeitguss handelt.
