Description
Das Gemälde folgt seitengleich einer Radierung von Jan Gillisz. van Vliet (vgl. Hollstein, van Vliet, Appendix B. 77), die wiederum auf einer Ölskizze oder Zeichnung von Rembrandt beruht. Es handelte sich um eine sehr beliebte Komposition Rembrandts, nach der mehrere Bilder entstanden sind. In der online Datenbank des RKD, Den Haag, sind vier verschiedene Kopien gelistet (vgl. die Abbildungsnummern 0000115818 und 1001240502).
