Indian Ink and opaque white on wove. (1909/1914). C. 28 x 24 cm. Remains of signature at the lower right (hardly legible).
Probably this drawing was made in connection with Thöny’s illustrations of Südtiroler Kaiserjägern or Kaiserschützen (South Tyrolean rifle regiment) for the Simplicissimus (cf. vol. 14, issue 1, p. 2 (1909) and vol. 19, issue 32, p. 432 (1914)). We are thankful to Mrs Dagmar von Kessel, Munich, for the information she has kindly provided for cataloguing this lot.

Description

Möglicherweise entstand diese Zeichnung im Zusammenhang mit Thönys Illustrationen von Südtiroler Kaiserjägern bzw. Kaiserschützen für den Simplicissimus (vgl. Jg. 14, Heft 1, S. 2 (1909) und Jg. 19, Heft 32, S. 432 (1914). – Mit den üblichen Deckweißübermalungen sowie Gebrauch- und Handhabungsspuren, kleinere Bereibungen und Läsuren der Deckweißschicht, teils aufgrund von leichten Papierknicken, linke obere Ecke mit kleinem Papierverlust, leichte Griffknicke, sonst in guter Erhaltung.
