Bronze with golden brown patina. (1957). C. 20 x 28 x 8 cm. One of probably only two executed copies (from 6 intended copies). With incised artist’s signum on the plinth. With foundry stamp “RICH. BARTH BLN. MARIENDORF” at lateral edge.

Description

Das Motiv geht auf eine frühere Ringergruppe von 1929 zurück, zu der Marcks durch Eindrücke einer antiken Ringergruppe aus dem Athener Nationalmuseum inspiriert wurde. 1959 entsteht eine leicht veränderte und vergrößerte Fassung (vgl. Rudloff 187 und 722). Mit leichten Altersspuren, vereinzelte geringfügige Bereibungen, insgesamt in guter Erhaltung.
