Description
Eduard Hildebrandt, dessen Werk jüngst in einer Ausstellung in Berlin einer Neubewertung unterzogen wurde, ist als Künstler ein Weltenbummler, der die damals bekannte Welt intensiv bereist hat. Ägypten besuchte Hildebrandt dabei zweimal: zunächst 1851 und danach 1862 im Rahmen einer dreijährigen Weltreise, die ihn bis an die Küsten Chinas führte. Seine Ansicht der Pyramiden von Gizeh, in der er das stimmungsvolle Sehnsuchtsbild einer fremden Kultur entwirft, geht auf diese Aufenthalte zurück.
