Die reizvolle Ölskizze stimmt bis auf nur wenige Details mit einem großformatigen, als “Italienische Landschaft” bezeichneten Gemälde in Genf (Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, Inv. 1874-9) überein, das um 1842 entstanden ist. Wahrscheinlich handelt es sich bei unserer Skizze um eine Vorarbeit für das Gemälde.
