Description
Miles Chappell beschreibt vorliegende Zeichnung als eine bedeutsame Neuentdeckung, die unseren Kenntnisstand über das Werk von Passignano erweitert. Es handelt sich um die früheste bekannte Studie für das gleichnamige, um 1595 datierte Altarbild in der Kirche San Francesco in Borgo San Sepolcro (Abb. 1). Eine im zeitlichen Ablauf später entstandene Kreidezeichnung wird in den Uffizien, Florenz (Inv. Nr. 9169 F recto), aufbewahrt. – Vereinzelt schwach braunfleckig und mit kleinen Randmängeln, daher alt aufgelegt.
