Während ihres ersten Außenbordeinsatzes (EVA-1) in dieser Mission bauten die Astronauten John W. Young und Charles Duke Jr. den modular aufgebauten Gerätekomplex “Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package” (ALSEP) auf, für weiterführende Experimente. Die einzelnen Komponenten des Gerätekomplexes sind verstreut im Hintergrund zu erkennen.
