Bei dieser Apollo Mission wurde zum ersten Mal ein Mondauto (LRV) mittransportiert, um die Astronauten bei ihren Experimenten zu unterstützen. James Irwin und David R. Scott sammelten mit Hilfe dieses Autos 77 kg an Gesteinsproben und brachten sie zurück zur Mondlandefähre.
