Description
Graf Alexander N. Tolstoy (1793 St. Petersburg – Nizza 1866) war Staatsrat, Stallmeister und Oberschenk am Hofe des Zaren Nikolai I. Das Portrait entstand wohl in Paris, wo sich Graf Tolstoy aufgrund seiner schwachen Gesundheit in Begleitung seines Hausarztes aufhielt. Ladurner, Lieblingsmaler von Kaiser Nikolai I., reiste in den späten 1830er Jahren nach Paris. Die zivile Kleidung des Dargestellten ist ein Indiz für die Entstehung des Porträts während einer Auslandsreise. – Verso auf der Rahmenrückseite von fremder Hand bezeichnet.
