Description
Vom Winter 1859 bis März 1860 nahm Selleny als Begleitung von Erzherzog Ferdinand Maximilian an einer Expedition nach Südamerika teil. Auf dieser naturwissenschaftlichen Forschungsreise fertigte der Künstler zahlreiche Zeichnungen an, beispielweise die Darstellungen von Städten, sowie Alltagsszenen der Reisenden, bis hin zu Aufnahmen der südamerikanischen Pflanzenwelt. Dabei hielt Selleny, ganz im Sinne Humboldts, die Pflanzen in der sie umgebenden Landschaft fest. – Am oberen Rand und in der Mitte punktuell auf Unterlagekarton befestigt, mit einer kleinen Ergänzung in der oberen linken Ecke. Minimal im Passepartoutausschnitt gebräunt, sonst farbfrisch und schön erhalten.
