1930 verleiht die Königlich Preussische Akademie der Künste Josef Scharl den Rom-Preis, sodass er die nächsten zwei Jahre in Rom verbringen kann. Hier entsteht auch diese Ansicht der berühmten Brunnenanlage von der Villa Borghese.
