Description
Von 1792 bis 1799 ermöglichte ein Reisestipendium Landgraf Wilhelms IX. von Hessen dem Künstler einen Aufenthalt in Italien. Die Anregung für die vorliegende Darstellung mag eine Station am Lago Maggiore auf der Hin- oder Rückreise gegeben haben; die Kirche im Hintergrund erinnert an Madonna di Campagna in Verbania. – Verso mit Montagerestchen, sonst gut erhalten.
