Wie viele seiner Zeitgenossen bezog Redig, ein Schüler Jan Baptist de Jonghes an der Antwerpener Akademie, seine künstlerische Inspiration aus der holländischen Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts. In der Freiheit des Pinselstrichs, der genauen Schilderung atmosphärischer Effekte und in der plastisch geschilderten Staffage zeigt dieses Gemälde jedoch auch seine ganz eigene Handschrift und Könnerschaft.
